Loving Davines!!

Davines! It's here! Come and get it!!

I’m super excited to announce that I am now carrying Davines. It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited about a hair care line. Yay!! If your wondering why, I’ve broken it down a bit for you. I’m super excited for you to try it out and I hope you love it as much as I do.

Founded in Parma, Italy in 1983 by the Bollati Family, Davines Group started as a research laboratory, producing high-end hair care products for renowned cosmetic companies worldwide. After a decade of honing our expertise, we began creating our own brand of Davines hair care products exclusively for salons, and in 1996 founded skin care for premier spas.

Since the beginning, we’ve focused on crafting quality products that are scientifically engineered to work, and express our distinctive style and spirit.

Our style is a reflection of our curiosity and openness to the world – different cultures, customs, and people that truly inspire us – and our Italian perspective of history and art, design and fashion, culture and lifestyle because it is our heritage and who we are. We love things that reflect simplicity and harmony because their beauty is always modern. And although we’re in tune with today’s mood, we set out to create concepts and products that are destined to become classics with their timeless appeal.

Quality to us means having the freedom to create the best products with attention and respect for our environment, using high grade, natural ingredients, and applying scientific rigor to every product to guarantee our customers’ safety. Quality is also intended by all of us, by our partners and consumers as quality of life.

At Davines, we dare to do what we believe in and, rather than conforming to the mainstream, allow intuition to pave our path. This gives us the freedom to develop concepts and products that are original, authentic, and emotionally connected with people. Our work is a thoughtful balance of substance and style, nature and science, people and spirit. It is what enables us to create what we call life-enhancing projects.

More than two decades later, the Davines community spans over 75 countries, thousands of salons and hundreds upon hundreds of passionate hairdressers. Although we continue to grow, with headquarters in Parma, New York City, Paris, London and Mexico City, our roots are firmly planted in our beginnings as a family-owned research laboratory guided by the same desire for quality products with an authentic approach and timeless appeal.

Beauty + Sustainability, this is an inspiring concept for all of our projects, from product formulation and design, to company ethics and salon education

Our ideal of beauty finds its inspiration in the concept of equilibrium between substance and shape as well as in the Italian Renaissance tradition. Our style is a delicate convergence of unique characteristics and it’s inspired by simplicity, harmony and good taste.

The beauty that we believe in is based on respect and appreciation for individuality. So we celebrate and express the grace and elegance that makes each of us who we are. This is why we consider ourselves as a tool for our customers to express their own uniqueness.

By creating “beauty” we want to encourage people to take care of themselves, of the environment in which they live and work, and of the things they love.

Our multicultural curiosity motivates us to explore the many truths that make our world. We strive to be in tune with the mood of the moment while still remaining fresh over time.

Our particular brand of beauty cannot work without practical and "sustainable" efforts.

For us, sustainability deals with the responsibility we owe to ourselves, the people with which we work, our customers, and the world in which we live and operate today and tomorrow. That said, our vision of “sustainability” has a range of connected meanings:

- “sustainability” in regard to our commitment to minimizing the impact on the environment, not compromising the quality or quantity of natural resources today or tomorrow.

- “sustainability” in regard to our privileged use of natural ingredients, enhanced with cutting-edge cosmetic technologies and an artisanal, handcrafted spirit. Through this approach we strive to guarantee the effectiveness of our products and the safety of our customers.

- “sustainability” in regard to “freedom of creation”. Our decisions are led more by "intuition” than “calculation” and by a pioneering spirit that guides us to avoid the mainstream and to explore ideas beyond trends. At Davines, every idea is born free and then developed with authenticity, in harmony with our values;

  1. -“sustainability” in regard to “ethics”. The word “ethics” in ancient Greek means “house, shelter, lair”. Inspired by this definition and by the honor of being a family company, we make our professional environment feel more like a homely place where to develop oneself and create sincere relationships with others both in and outside the company, on a multicultural level.

In summarizing, “beautiful and good” – as the ancients referred to the inseparable unity between exterior and interior beauty – is another way to say “sustainable beauty". And "sustainable beauty" is another way to say Davines.

Even the packaging is a factor in sustainability, this is why Davines has developed a set of guideline principles that strive to create packaging that is as environmentally friendly as possible.

Our packaging choices are based on three fundamental points:

- The use of as little raw materials as possible;

- The use of recyclable materials;

- The optimization of logistics and quality control processes to avoid waste..

The actions we take daily to comply with the packaging guidelines are numerous and concrete:

- Use only the minimum amount of plastic required to contain and protect the product is used (e.g. Davines / Essential Haircare line). This case study includes the ECOMILLE project, for which Davines was awarded the “Product Stewardship 2011” prize by the Federazione Nazionale dell’Industria Chimica (Federchimica - National Chemical Industry Federation);

- Use of only primary packaging, eliminating cardboard cartons; when this cannot be avoided, the use of recycled or compostable materials;

- Selection of recyclable materials for packaging purpuses;

- Reduce the use of composite materials as much as possible, as they are difficult to recycle, and choose those that can easily be separated through the use of automatic processes, or better yet, create single-material packaging;

- Choose whenever possible suppliers that make use of renewable resources, companies that certify the quality of their products and methods of operation, and sensible to sustainability;

  1. -Increase quality control to avoid re-processing and product returns, which in doing so, will reduce waste resources that represent a waste of resources.

The Davines Research Charter is a collection of guidelines for sustainability that the Davines Research Laboratories strive to maintain in the creation of highly effective and innovative formulas, with an on-going commitment regarding the choice of ingredients, the formulation of new products and their development.

In force since 2009, it represents the achievement of the ambitious objective of balancing quality and high performance with respect for mankind and the environment.

The Research Charter favors ingredients of natural origin, organic or eco-certified; made from renewable sources, eco sustainable, not of petrochemical origin; made from environmentally friendly processes; possibly biodegradable and with low water toxicity; originating from crops produced in conformity with international eco-ethical standards, thus with no discrimination and exploitation of people or the environment; international and typical traditions of other countries and Italy; respectful of local biodiversity; sold according to principles of fair trade; innovative, unique and specific, with top quality and purity; able to guarantee full traceability of the finished product; tested for their effectiveness in collaboration with international universities and research centers; not tested on animals.

Our commitment to reducing environmental impact entails minimizing temperatures during production using cold processes; reducing water consumption through simplified production cycles; the use of clean energy from renewable sources such as the sun, wind and water, and lastly, selecting suppliers that are certified or members of environmentally sustainable projects.

To guarantee safety and effectiveness to the consumer, all Davines formulas are subject to international legislative approval; the on-going monitoring of formulas to comply with legislative amendments; the exclusive use of world-wide approved cosmetic ingredients; the availability of complete safety and effectiveness documentation for each individual ingredient; production processes developed in compliance with ingredient integrity as a guarantee of effectiveness.

All human activity produces carbon dioxide emissions.

According to recent findings energy consumption will grow by 40% over the next twenty years, and the planet is already incapable of sustaining it: the consumption of natural resources by human beings exceeds the earth's capacity to renew them.

It is essential for man to begin looking towards renewable energies and resources for his energy requirements and to supply the practice of producing and creating services.

Currently the energy provided by renewable sources comprises only 19% of world production, accordingly it is extremely important to aspire to a life style that avoids CO2 emissions.

To offset the environmental impact, Davines has been using the renewable energy of the sun, wind, water and soil to supply its plants and offices since 2006.

These inexhaustible sources of energy do not release CO2, they do not pollute and are constantly renewed.

Every product formulated, designed and produced by Davines is obtained with 100% clean energy.

Several years ago, with the collaboration of LifeGate, Davines adopted a Zero Impact® policy (carbon-neutral) for the pack of our Essential Haircare product line, which was later joined by the family of SŪ sun-care products, OI and by the styling line more inside.

By adhering to LifeGate's Zero Impact® Project the carbon dioxide emissions generated by the production of the packaging for these lines are offset by the purchasing of carbon credits generated by operations of forests' creation and protection in Italy, Costa Rica and Madagascar, as established by the Kyoto Protocol.

Accordingly, Davines helps developing the vegetation required to restore oxygen that is extracted from the environment.

Davines, one of the first Italian cosmetique brands to have joined the Zero Impact® projects, has already contributed to offsetting the emissions of 3.044.904 kg (6.712.864 lbs) of CO2.

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary from the project beginning, LifeGate has honored Davines with the title of Zero Impact® Ambassador 2013 , because of the Company great commitment in the project.
